Franz Seitz took private acting lessons and he appeared on several Bavarian stages. In 1908 he was engaged at the Volkstheater in Nürnberg. He directed his first theatre piece in 1912 and his first movie followed in 1917. In the 1930s he had his own production company and in 1933 he produced and directed the nazi propaganda movie "SA-Mann Brand". His biggest success was the comedy "IA in Oberbayern" (1936). During the Second World War he produced no more movies.

Franz Seitz married the actress Anni Terofal and their son became a film director and film producer as well. Their other son Hans was a well known comedian.
