Franz von Seitz studied under Joseph Schlotthauer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. After that he worked as a lithographer and a drawer. In 1848 he became the artistic director of the satirical magazine "Lechtkugeln" and in 1855 he became costume designer at the Court Theatre in Munich. In 1858 he was appointed professor at the Academy of Arts and in 1869 he became the artistic director of the Court Theatre. Together with his son Rudolf he made many designs for Schloss Linderhof, one of the projects of kind Ludwig II of Bavaria. He also decorated Ludwig's royal train. In 1876 he retired and he became a honorary member of the Academy of Art. He died in 1883 in Munich. Related persons was painted by Lenbach, Franz von Events |
10/6/1865 | Premiere of Richard Wagner's "Tristan Und Isolde" in Munich. Hans von Bülow was the conductor. "Tristan und Isolde" was refused in Paris, Vienna and Karlsruhe because it would be 'impossible to perform'. The performance started at six and ended shortly before midnight. Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld was Tristan and his wife Malvina was Isolde. King Ludwig II of Bavaria was there.
