Ludwig Barnay was born Ludwig Weiss in Pest. He debuted as an actor in 1860 in Trautenau under the name of Lacroix. In 1862 was engaged at the Theater Pest-Ofen. He performed in Mainz, Prague, Riga and Leipzig before he went to Hoftheater in Weimar in 1868. In 1864 he had married the opera singer Marie Kreuzer. They divorced in 1880 and in 1883 he married the actress Minna Arndt. In 1870 he was active in Frankfurt am Main. In that year he founded the Genossenschaft Deutscher Bühnenangehöriger. Together with Adolf l'Arronge he founded the Sozietät Deutsches Theater in 1883. He also founded the Berliner Theater in Kreuzberg in 1888. He was the manager of this theater from 1888 to 1894. After living in Wiesbaden and publishing his "Errinerungen" ("Memories') in 1903 he managed the Court Theatre in Berlin from 1906 to1908. From 1908 to 1912 he held the same position at the Court Theatre in Hannover. He died in Hannover in 1924. Family Wife: Arndt, Minna (1883-) |
