Auguste von Bärndorf took acting lessons with Auguste Crelinger when she was sixteen years old. In 1846 she debuted at the Königliche Schauspielhaus in Berlin. Between 1848 and 1857 she was engaged at the Imperial Court Theatre in St. Petersburg and from 1857 to 1868 she worked for the Court Theatre in Hanover.

On 4 Jul 1870 she married professor Anton Jacks von Wartenhorst from Prague and she left the stage. In 1881 she became a honourary member of the Court Theatre in Hanover. After her husband died she lived in Baden Baden. Mihaly Von Zichy painted her portrait.
