Anton Rintelen was a professor at the German University in Prague from 1903 to 1911. He was head of state of Steirmark from 1919 to 1926 and from 1928 to 1933.

He participated in the coupe d'etat of the nazis in 1934, although he wanted to withdraw from it before it happened. He was intended to become the new Chancellor of Austria. Chancellor Dollfuss was killed buy the coup failed. Rintelen was sentenced to life imprisonment. After the anschluss of 1938 he was released but he didn't return to politics. He died in 1946 in Graz.
