Michel-Philibert Genod was a student of Pierre Revoil. He painted the portraits of Louis XVIII (1820) and Charles X (1825), both located at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. In 1845 Genod finished Revoil's "Pharamond eleve sur le pavois" (Versailles, Musée national du château). In 1839 he became a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, where Chenu was among his pupils. He held this position until his death in 1862.
