Friederike Gossmann was born in Würzburg. Her father was the writer and teacher Johan Batholomäus Gossmann (1811-1854). Her mother Johanna Constanzia Gossmann-Weinzierl (1807-1840) was an opera singer. Her mother died in 1840 and she came with her father to Munich. There she received acting lessons from Constanze Dahn (1814-1894). She debuted as Leonie in Eugène Scribe's "Damenkrieg" in 1853 in Munich. She appeared in Königsberg and then at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg where she was much appreciated by the public. In 1857 she went to the Hoftheater in Vienna where she debuted in "Die Grille" von Charlotte Birch-Pfeiffer. In 1861 she married Anton Freiherrn von Prokesch-Osten (1837-1919), and she withdrew from the stage. From 1862 to 1867 she made guest appearances in several cities in Germany and in St. Petersburg and Amsterdam. She also participated in charity performances. She lived in Gmunden in the Villa Prokesch-Osten. Her daughter Johanna married Colonel Viktor Freiherr von Schleinitz (1865-1957). Friederike died in 1906 in Gmunden.
