Alma Goethe was the third child of Julius Goethe and Ottille von Pogwisch. Johann wolfgang von Goethe was her grandfather and he lived to see her. Louise von Seidler painted Alma's portrait. When she stayed in Vienna in 1844 she feel victim to the typhoid epidemic in that city. She was buried at the cemetery in Währing (now the Schubertpark), but in 1885 he remains were transferred to Weimar. Franz Grillparzer wrote a poem about her.
