Willy Wilde died in 1899 and she was raised by her mother and her second husband Alexander Teixeira de Mattos. Dorothy looked a lot like Oscar Wilde. During the First World War Dorothy was an ambulance driver and she had an affaire with her collegue Maion "Joe" Carstairs who later became a speedboat racer. More lesbian affairs followed and from 1927 until her death she was one of the lovers of Natalie Barney. In 1939 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but she refused an operation in order to seek alternative treatments. In 1941 she died. It was unclear if she died from the cancer or from a drug overdose. Related persons was the lover of Barney, Natalie Clifford |
