The soprano Caroline Tellheim was the sister of the actor and playwright Carl Tellheim. She debuted in 1861 at the Carltheater in Vienna. From 1 July 1862 to 31 March 1871, she was a soubrette at the Court Opera in Vienna. In 1871 she returned to the Carltheater for a while. There she had her biggest success as Prinz Rafael in Jacques Offenbach's "Die Prinzessin von Trapezun". In 1873 she married the Hungarian merchant Emanuel Kanitz and she retired from the stage. But her marriage failed in 1874 and she resumed her career. She worked at the Carl-Schultze-Theater in Hamburg, the Theater an der Wien in Vienna, the Victoria-Theater in Frankfurt am Main and at the Teatro Armonia in Trieste. In 1880 she appeared in the premiere of "Das Spitzentuch der Königin" by Johann Strauss at the theater an der Wien. In the 1880s she ended her career after her voice as well as her body had altered significantly. After that she occasionally appeared as a concert singer and worked as a singing teacher. During her later years, her financial position was weak. A few weeks before she died in 1906 in Vienna, she had obtained the concession for the management of the Theater in den Gisela-Sälen in Floridsdorf.
