At the gala premiere of Gottschalk's movie "Die schwedische Nachtigall " in Berlin she met Joseph Goebbels and he seemed to like her. But the authorities found out that Meta was Jewish and she was blacklisted immediately. Gottschalk had the choice to divorce her or to enter the army and be sent to the front immediately. After he didn't divorce her he was blacklisted as well. In the fall of 1941 they received news that Meta and Michael would be deported to Theresienstadt. Gottschalk asked to be deported as well, but this request was denied by Hans Hinkel (1901-1960). After that the family committed suicide. Family Husband: Gottschalk, Joachim (1930-) |
