Karl van Saar studied from 19811 at the Academie der Bildende Künste in Vienna, where J. Lampi, Caucig and Mössner were his teachers. He worked as an ullustrator before he specialised in painting portraits. He also painted historical pictures in his early career and flowers after 1850. His portraits were often used for engravings and lithographs. |
