Annemarie Wendl took acting lessons with Lucie Höflich in Berlin. She started with She played classical parts on the stages of Berlin, Bonn, augsburg, Innsbruck, Munich, Bamberg and Ingolstadt. She played everything from Goethe to Brecht. In 1942 she married the dramatist Siegmar Kleinschmidt, but he died in 1944. They had a son, Siegmar Kleinschmidt. In 1961 she started a film career and she appeared in over 35 movies and television prodictions. Among her movie appearances was Fassbinder's "Ich will doch nur, daß ihr mich liebt" (1975). In the long running German soap Lindenstrasse she played the part of Else Kling for many years. In 2005 she suffered a stroke and this forced her to abandon her work for Lindenstrase.
