Gussy Holl acted in a number of silent movies between 1913 and 1921. In 1921 she appeared in F.W. Murnau's "Desire". In 1918 she married the actor Conrad Veidt, but they divorced in 1922. In 1923 she became the fourth wife of the even more famous actor Emil Jannings. During the 1920s she was known as a singer of chansons and she was in contact with Kurt Tucholsky and Carl Zuckmayer. Between 1926 and 1929 she and Jannings lived in the USA where he enjoyed further success. After their return to Germany her husband continued his career during the nazi era. After the war he was forced to retire and they lived at their country home in Strobl am Wolfgangsee in Austria.
