Béatrice Bretty was born Béatrix Anne-Marie Bolchesi. She studied under Louise Lara who suggested the name Bretty which she derived from the word soubrette. From 1929 to 1955 she was a member of the Comédie-Française. She also appeared in several movies. In 1935 she was one of the first persons to appear on French television that started broadcasting in 1935. In 1935 she also participated in the first movie that made at the Comédie-Française. The politician Georges Mandel was her companion but he was killed in 1944 because of his resistance activities. After she left the Comédie-Française in 1956 she received a farewell performance in 1959 and after that she performed on the boulevards until 1970. |
