Gertrud Kückelmann was the daughter of the physician H.W.L. Kückelmann and the actress Anna Kückelmann-Guba. She went to school in Munich and was educated as a dancer. She became a member of the Müchner Kammerspiele in 1949 and performed there for twenty years. She also had her first small movie part in 1949. During the fifties she played in many movies. Her talent was undisputed, but she was considered to be 'difficult'. She often fell out with her collegues because her demands were so high. When she had trouble getting new parts in Western Germany she appeared in the East German movie "Spielbank-Affäre" in 1957. Her movie career was over now, although she appeared in her brother Nobert Kückelmann's movie "Die Angst ist ein zweiter Schatten" in 1974. In 1968 she married director Fritz Schuster, but a divorce followed in 1971. In 1969 her contract at the threatre in München wasn't renewed and for a while she worked as a nurse. In 1974 she returned to television and to the theatre. Two weeks after her 50th birthday she killed herself by jumping out of the window of her brother Norbert's fourth stock appartment in Schwabing, Munich. She left no suicide note, but the autopsy showed that she was suffering from cancer of the intestines. Related persons was directed by Kortner, Fritz |
