Auguste Wilbrandt was educated by her stepfather, the actor Karl Friedrich Baudius (1796-1860). In 1860 she was Julia in "Romeo and Julia" in Leipzig and she also appeared in Dresden and Breslau. In 1861 Heinrich Laube engaged her at the Burgtheater in Vienna. She had parts in plays by Eduard von Bauernfeld and Adolf von Wilbrandt. In 1873 she married Von Wilbrandt. In 1878 she left the Burgtheater after she had fallen out with Franz von Dingelstedt, Laube's successor.

In 1889 she was contracted by the Theater an der Wien and in 1893 she went to the newly opened Raimund Theater. In 1898 she returned to the Burgtheater. Apart from her acting career, she wrote feulletons for newspapers and published her memoirs.
