Verena Loewensberg studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Basel from 1927 to 1929. She became a textile weaver in Speicher. In 1931 she married the designer Hans Coray. They had two children in 1943 and 1946 before they divorced.

In 1936 she painted the first of her concrete pictures for which she is best known. She participated in group exhibitions with Max Bill, Camille Graeser and Richard Paul Lohse. Max Bill and his wife Binia were lifelong friends.
