Daughter of an inn-keeper in Leipzig. The young Johann Wolfgang Goethe always took lunch at her family´s house and met her in 1766. He fell in love with her and they started a relationship that ended in 1768 because of his extreme jealousy. During their liaison Goethe wrote the Annettenlieder and the play "Die Laune des Verliebten".

Anna and Goethe corresponded until 1770. In that year she married the lawyer Dr. Christian Karl Kanne, who became vice mayor of Leipzig in later years. In 1776 Goethe visited her a final time in Leipzig.
