Louise Mulder was born in Utrecht as the daughter of the merchant Nicolaas Mulder. Her parents opposed a musical career, but they allow her to sing in an oratorio. Richard Hol (1825-1904) gave her singing lessons. After Amalie Materna heard her, she said to her surprise 'Wir treffen uns in Bayreuth'. Hol wrote to Cosima Wagner and she was indeed invited to demonstrate her singing for her and Siegfried Wagner. She succeeded and with Cosima Wagner's support she studied in Bayreuth. In 1891 she debuted in Bayreuth as Zweite Knappe in "Parsifal" and as Ein junger Hirt in "Tannhäuser". 1892 she performed the part of Eva in "Die Meistersinger" at the Stadttheater in Nuremberg in the presence of Cosima Wagner and Hermann Levi. In the summer of 1892, she sang the same part in Bayreuth. This was her only leading part in Bayreuth.

She appeared at concerts at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In 1891 she sang in the Dutch premiere of Wagner's "Tannhäuser". In 1894-1895 she appeared in Stuttgart. She toured with the conductor Walter Damrosch in the USA in 1896-1897. In 1897-1898 she worked in Riga. In 1898 the Opera of Coburg contracted her and later extended her initial contract. In 1910 she withdrew from the stage but stayed in Coburg where she gave singing lessons. In 1933 she returned to the Netherlands after the nazis came to power. She was ni supporter of nazism and she was convinced that her big mouth would bring her into trouble if she stayed in Germany. She died in 1958 in Utrecht.
