Eugène Feyen was the son of a tax collector. The painter Augustin Feyen-Perrin was his younger brother. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Paul Delaroche. He exhibited from 1841 to 1882 at the Salon. During that time he experimented with photography together with his brother, but he returned to painting afterwards. During the summers he lived in Cancale, Ille-et-Vilaine, where he created many paintings. In 1881 he recieved the Legion of Honor. He died in Paris in 1908 and was buried in the same grave as his brother at Montmartre Cemetery. After the Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre in 1913 it was temporarily replaced by a copy of his hand. Related persons was pupil of Delaroche, Paul is brother/sister of Feyen-Perrin, Augustin |
