Vera Roll was a showgirl of the revue theatre. She married the actor Nuto Navarinni and they became professional partners as well. Navarinna was a fascist sympathizer and she appeared in shows that were used for propaganda purposes like the operetta "Il diavolo nella giarrettiera" by Giovanni D'Anzi (1906-1974). In "La Gazzetta del sorriso" she symbolized Italy harrassed by the USA. After the fall of the fascist regime her hair was shaved off and she was exposed to public ridicule in Milan. She and Nuto went to triail and were aquitted from the charge of collaboration because of lack of evidence. In 1947 they returned to Rome to perform. In the same year she appeared in Armando Fizzarotti's movie "Malaspina". Further movies followed. She divorced Navarrini in 1972 and married Stefano Silvij soon afterwards. She died in 1973 in Rome. |
