Gabrielle Tholer started her music classes at the Conservatory when she was only eleven years old. She won medals for music theory and for piano. After joining the class of Philoclès Regnier she also won a second prize for comedy. In 1869 she joined the Comédie-Française and she debuted as Ms de Cressey in the premiere of Octave Feuillet's "Julie". She lived and worked in Russia from 1873 to 1881. In 1881 she returned to Paris and to the Comédie-Française. She succesfully appeared in "Mademoiselle de Belle-Isle" by Alexandre Dumas père and in "Le Demi-monde" by Alexandre Dumas fils. She became the 312th member of the Comédie-Française in 1883, but she was forced to retire in 1888 for health reasons and she died in Paris in 1894 at the age of 44. |
