Julie Browner was the daughter of Robert Browner, who had emigrated from Romania to the USA. She studied dance with Martha Graham (1894-1991) before she became a model. She often worked for expressionis painters. When she was 30 years old she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a movie career. There she met Man Ray in a night club. They married in 1946 and at the same occasion Max Ernst married Dorothea Tanning. In 1951 they moved to a studio in Paris near the Jardin de Luxembourg. There they lived until Man Ray's death in 1976. Juliet died in 1991 and was buried in his grave at the Montparnasse Cemetery in Paris.
