Massimiliano Quilici was musical director for the Duke of Lucca. He was professor of singing and composer of church music. He gave private lessons to Marie-Louise de Bourbon, duchess of Lucca.

He was the composer of the operas "Francesca da Rimini" (1829, Teatro del Giglio, Lucca), "Bartolomeo della Cavalla" (1838, Teatro San Benedetto, Venice) and "La penna del Diavolo" (1861, Florence).
