Aïda Alecian was born as Aida Muhendisyan into a musical family. Her father Vahram Mühendissyian was a violinist and a conductor. He was the founder of the Turkish National Orchestra. In 1946 she went to France where she was a pupil of Alfred Cortot at the École Normale de Musique. She married the cellist Noé Alécian and often played with him in chamber music.

As a teacher she taught at conservatories in the Paris region. Dissatisfied with the system she started her own school in Asnières sur Seine in 1968, the Jardin de Musique. It was recognized as a non-profit cultural organisation in 1970. In 1979 her daughter Eugénie took over its management. Aïda died in 1990 in Paris.
