Orazio Bacci studied in Florence and taught Italian literature in Prato, Sienna and Florence. He was a friend of the author Isidoro del Lungo and he married his daughter Romilda on 22 April 1895.

In 1892 he published "Manuale della letteratura italiana" together witth Alessandro D'Ancona. It was revised several times. He also lectured on Dante. In 1910 became he representative of Castelfiorentino in the province of Lorence. In 1913 he was elected into the Accademia della Crusca. In 1915 he became mayor of Florence during the First World War. He died during his mayorship in 1917.
