Renato Dall'Ara moved from Reggio Emilia to Bologna, where he started a knitwear compnany that made him rich. In 1934 he became the president of the Bologna football club. Between 1934 and 1941 Bologna won four national titles. After the war the club was less successful, but in the early 1960s the results improved. In June Bologna was to play a tie-break against Inter Milan for the championship. Dall'Ara was in Milan to discuss the match with Inter's Angelo Moretti when he was killed by a heart attack on 3 June 1964. Bologna won the tie-beak on 7 June. The Bologna stadium was named after him.
