Paula Zundel-Bosch was a daughter of the industrialist Robert Bosch (1861-1942) and his wife Anna Kayser (1864-1949). In 1927 she married the painter Friedrich Zundel after he had divorced Clara Zetkin. Zundel had painted her when Paula was still a child at the time that he and Bosch were neighbours. The couple settled at the Gutshof Lustnauer near Tübingen that Zundel had designed in 1921 for the daughters of Robert Bosch. In 1931 they had a son, George. Zundel died in 1948 and in the 1960s Paula and her sister Margarete Fischer-Bosch decided to created a lasting memory for his work. They ordered the construction of the Kunsthalle Tübingen that was opened on 11 November 1971 by the art historian Götz Adriani. She was a honorary citizen of Tübingen since 1961 and she died there in 1974.
