Andrew Morton studied at the schools of the Royal Academy and first exhibited there in 1821. He made himself a name with his portraits that were influenced by the style of Sir Thomas Lawrence. He painted George IV, James Gordon, Mariana Augusta Lady Hamilton and many others. Many of his portraits are now in the National Portrait Gallery. He died in London in 1845, aged only 43. His younger brother Thomas Morton was a well known surgeon. |
