Virginie Ancelot was born as Marguerite Chardon. Her father was the businessman Thomas Chardon and her mother Barbe Edmée de Vernisy (1761-1832) was a miniaturist. Her mother came from a family of parliamentarians in Dijon. She grew up in a cultural enviroment and was taught painting. In Paris she exhibited "La veuve du Roi Ban" at the Salon in 1810. She married the playwright Jacques-François Ancelot in 1818 and from 1824 to 1866 she hosted a literary salon at the hotel de La Rochefoucauld-Liancourt, rue de Seine. Her theatre plays were published in 1848 in "Theâtre complet". She published several novels, including "Gabrielle" (183), "Georgine" (1855) and "Une route sans issue" (1857). Her memoirs were published in "Les Salons de Paris, foyers éteints" (1858) and in "Un salon de Paris 1824-64" (1866). Family Husband: Ancelot, Jean-François (1818-1854) |
