Daniel Darc came from a Jewish family from Russia and Lithuania. His grandparents fled from Russia during the revolution in 1917. In 1978 he studied at the Balzac High School in Paris when he joined the band Taxi Girl. Their single "Search the boy" sold 300,000 copies in 1980.

After Taxi Girl ceased to exist in 1986 he embarked on a solo career. His first album "Under Divine Influence" was released in 1987, followed by "Because" in 1988. Further albums followed. His last album "La taille de mon âme" was released in 2011. In 2013 he started his autobiography with the help of the journalist Bertrand Dicale. He also worked on a new album with Manou at the time he was found dead in his appartment in Paris. He had probably died from a mixture of alcohol and drugs.
