Jean-Adolphe Beaucé was a pupil of Charles Bazin. He was best known for his paintings of battles. In 1843 he followed the French army during campaigns in North Africa, the Middle East and Mexico. During the 1850s he mostly worked as an illustrator. He painted a portrait of Bazaine during the Mexican expedition that started in 1861. In 1863 he painted the comte d'Ornano. He received the Légion d'honneur in 1864. In 1875 he died in Boulogne-Billancourt. His work is in the collections of museums in Compiègne, Norbonne, Pau and Troyes.
