Athénais Mialaret discovered Jules Michelet through his literary work. She wrote to him for guidance at the time she was tutoring the children of Princess Cantacuzène in Vienna. They were engaged before they even met and in 1849 they married. They collaborated on several works that were published under Michelet's name. She also published her own books, among them "Mémoires d'une enfant". At the time Jules Michelet died in 1874 they were working on "La nature". Michelet left her the rights to his works. She published several books about him and his family. She died in 1899 in Paris and was buried beside her husband.
