Félix Maréchal studied medicine before he entered politics. He was an opponent of the July Monarchy and defended his republican ideas. From 1848 to 1851 hewas the president of the conseil général of La Moselle. During the Second Empire he succeeded Édouard Januez as mayor of Metz in 1854. In 1859 he was awarded the Légion d'honneur for his public services. He was still mayor of Metz when he died in 1871, shortly before Metz became a part of the German Empire. |
