Friedrich Noack was the son of the politician and architect August Noack (1857-1926). In 1909 he started studying law in Munich, but in the same year he switched Berlin to where he studied musicology from 1909 to 1914. In 1906 he was promoted. From 1920 to 1927 he worked as a teacher at the Academy of Music in Darmstadt and from 1920 to 1943 he was the music critic of the Darmstädter Tagblatt.

He was also the director of the church choir of the Martinsgemeinde in Darmstadt from 1920 to 1950. From 1926 he lectured at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory in Mainz and he was a professor at the Pegagogical Academy in Frankfurt am Main from 1927 to 1934 and a lecture at the Hoch Conservatory in that city from 1927 to 1937. After the war he was a lecturer at the Landesmusikschule Darmstadt from 1946 to 1955 and until 1952 he was its director as well. He died in Darmstadt in 1958.
