Hans von Hayek studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts for a short while. He went to Munich in 1891 where he studied at the Art Academy under Gabriel von Hackl, Wilhelm von Lindenschmit the Younger and Carl von Marr. He left Munich for Olching an der Amper and in 1900 he settled in Dachau. There he started a painting school that he directed until 1915. From the income of his school he travelled extensively, visiting Paris, the Riviera, the Netherlands and many other places. He was a co-founder of the Museumsverein Dachau and in 1908 he obtained German citizenship. During the First World War he was a war painter. After the war he lived in Munich and from there he travelled to Indonesia, Ceylon and other destinations. He died in 1940 in Munich and he was buried in Dachau. |
