Roderick Jones directed the Reuters press agency from 1915 after Herbert de Reuter had committed suicide. He was also its owner until 1925 and kept his post until 1941.

He married the author Enid Bagnold in 1920 and lived with her in Rottingdean near Brighton in the house that had previously belonged to the painter Edward Burne-Jones.
