Guido Salvino was the son of the actor Gusavo Salvini and the grandson of the actor Tomasso Salvini. In 1924 he was one of the founders of the Theater d'Arte di Roma that was led by Luigi Pirandello. In 1932 he was the director of the music festival in Venice and from 1938 to 1944 he was the director of the National Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Apart from many operas and operettas, he directed seven movies between 1937 and 1955, among them "Queen of the Sala" (1937) and "Adriana Lecouvreur" (1955).
