Alexandre Poitevin attended the École des beaux-arts in Paris where Charles Percier was his teacher in 1809. In 1815 he worked as an architect in the Jemmapes department. After he moved to Bordeaux around 1820 he became architect of Lot-et-Garonne, Gironde and Bordeaux until 1824. In Bordeaux he built the two columns at the Place des Quinconces and the Hôtel Verthamoni. He also restored churches. Apart from his work as an architect he was also active as a painter. He died in his hometown Bordeaux in 1859.
