Ida Benza was the daughter of the opera singer Károly Benza (1811-1872). Her mother was Amália Joob. Her father was her first teacher and and Vienna she was taught by Salvi and others. In 1865 she debuted as Sibel in Gounod's "Faust" in Vienna. In 1868 she appeared at La Scala in Milan in Verdi's "Don Carlos" as Princess Eboli. She toured in Europe and early in 1872 she performed in Moscow and St. Petersburg. She was contracted by the National Theatre in Budapest in 1872. In 1873 she converted to the protestant faith before she married the actor Imre Nagy and ended her singing career. She sang for the last time on 27 March 1873. At the time of her death in Budapest in 1880 she was only 34 years old.
