Thomas Kirk was educated at the Dublin Society's School where he won several prizes. Heworked for the stone-cutter Henry Darley in Dublin and in 1809 he was commissioned to create the statue of Nelson for Nelson's Pillar in O'Connel Street in Dublin. It was destroyed by an explosion in 1966 and the head of the statue is now kept in the Dublin City Library. He created many church memorials all over the country and was a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. His work can now be seen at the Royal College of Surgeons, the Royal Dublin Society and the library of Trinity College. |
