Eugen Beyer joined the Austrian imperial army in 1902. After the First World War he was put in command of the 6th Division in Innsbruck. On 22 December 1936 he was promoted to Feldmarschalleutnant. After Austria was incorporated in the German Reich in 1938 he was transferred to the Wehrmacht on 15 March 1938. He was given the command of the 18th Army Corps and he held this position until his death of cancer in 1940 in Salzburg.
