Grete Zimmer was educated at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna. In 1945 she joined the Theater in der Josefstadt in that city and she worked there for nearly 30 years. In 1946 she was Buhlschaft in "Jedermann" at the Festspiele in Salzburg. In Vienna she also appeared at the Akademietheater, the Volkstheater and the Volksoper. In films she mostly had smaller parts. She appeared next to Wolf Albach-Retty in "Ein bezaubernder Schwindler" (1950). She also did some television work. In 1988 she became a honourary member of the Theater in der Josefstadt. Her last role was in 1993 in "Mein Freund Harvey" at the Kammerspiele in Vienna.
