| Ákos Buttykay was a pupil of István Thomán and in Weimar he studied under Bernhard Stavenhagen. He worked as a piano teacher at the Music Academy in Budapest from 1907 to 1923. As a composer he created an opera, five operettas and two symphonies. He married the operetta singer Emmi Kosáry and the actress Emmi Buttykay was their daughter.
