Rose Steuermann was the daughter of the Jewish lawyer Josef Steuermann. Her sister was the actress Saska Viertel and her brother the composer Eduard Steuermann. In Dresden she appareared in Schönberg's "Pierrot Lunaire". In 1922 she married the director Josef Gielen. Her husband moved to Argentina in 1939 and in 1940 she followed with their son and daughter. In 1948 they returned to Vienna. She died in 1973 in Vienna. Her son Michael became a well known composer and conductor. Family • Husband: Gielen, Josef (1922-) |
