Hans Baur studied law in Munich but quickly abandoned his studies. He found employment at the Rundfunk (the broadcasting company) in Munich and only when he was in fear of losing his job he took professional acting lessons with Magda Lena Achmann. He was engaged at the Kammerspiele in Munich in 1934 and from 1935 to 1937 at the Stästische Bühnen Augsburg. Engagements followed in Münster (1937-1939), Essen (1941-1942), Frankfurt am Main (1942-1944) and again Essen (1946-1948). An illness spared him service in the army during the Second World War.

In the 1950s he plated in many television productions. His best known part was that of Amtsgerichtrat Stierhammer in the television series "Königlich Bayerisches Amtsgericht" (1969-1972). He often lent his rich voice to radio plays for children. Baur died in 1986 in Munich.
