Edgar Hanfstaengl was the son of the art publisher Edgar Hanfstaengl (1842-1910). In 1907 he took over the publishing business from his father. In 1919 he was one of the founders of the Deutschen Demokratischen Partei and in 1932 he was a candidate against the nazis, unlike his brother Ernst (1887-1975), whose support for Hitler was well known. In 1917 he had a daughter from the opera singer Zdenka Fassbender, Eva Gabriela. A son, Edgar Maria, followed in 1919. He married Zdenka in 1920. After the Second World War he successfully published works by the expressionist artists that had been repressed by the nazis. From 1945 to 1952 he was a member of the City Council in Munich. Family Wife: Faßbender, Zdenka (1920-1954) |
