Luise Ullrich started her career at the Volksbühne in Vienna when she was only 15 years old. She continued her career at the Burgtheater and from 1931 onwards she mostly performed in Berlin, where she was engaged at the Volksbühne am Alexanderplatz (1931-1932) and at the Berliner Staatstheater (1935-1936).

In 1932 she played next to Luis Trenker in her first movie, "Der Rebell". "Liebelei" (1933) turned her into a very popular movie actress. She continued her film career successfully until well after the war. In 1942 she married Wulf, Graf von Castell-Rüdenhausen.

Around 1960 she turned her back to the movies and returned to the stage. She was occasionally seen on television as well. In 1973 she published an autobiography, "Komm auf die Schaukel, Luise".
