Erna Fentsch-Wery grew up in Munich, She became a stage actress against the wishes of her parents. Between 1933 and 1945 she appeared in ten movies, among them "Der Tunnel" (1933), "Weiberregiment" (1936) and "Die Keusche Sünderin" (1943).

She married the actor Carl Wery who asked her to end her acting career. From then on she wrote screenplays under her maiden name for movies and for television. One of them was for "Kronprinz Rudolfs letzte Liebe" (1955) and another "Am Galgen hängt die Liebe" (1960). After her husband's death in 1975 she wrote detective novels under the name of Ernestine Wery.
